StrongHer – beginners weightlifting course for women.

  • Course start dates:

Spend six-weeks with our expert coaches and learn everything you need to lift weights safely, efficiently and with confidence, alongside other likeminded women. We’ll teach you how to squat, deadlift, press and pull as well as loads of other essentials! By end of this six-week course, you’ll know how to perform all the main exercises needed to lift weights with confidence.

This course is designed for complete beginners, so even if you’ve never touched a weight before you’ll get along just fine. However, if you do have some experience of lifting weights, you’ll also find this course very beneficial in learning how to structure your workouts, how to lift correctly and iron out any bad habits you may have picked up!

The six-week course is priced at £135.00 and includes:

  • Two 60-minute group sessions per week (four members per group)
  • Six-week resistance and HIIT training programme
  • Core stability training
  • Benefits of lifting weights
  • How to feel more confident in the gym
  • How to structure a good warm up

Days and times:

  • Monday: 6.30pm and 7.30pm
  • Tuesday: 5.15pm
  • Wednesday: 5.45pm and 6.45pm
  • Thursday: 6.30pm
  • Saturday: 9.30am and 10.30am
  • Sunday: 8.45am and 10.00am

Life Leisure offer a fantastic range of group exercise classes catering for all fitness levels and abilities, such as HIIT, Body Pump, Yoga and Spin. Some classes are more intense than others, but each class can be modified for all abilities with adaptations for exercises given where needed.

Houldsworth Village is an official HYROX partner gym! Whether you’re training for a HYROX race or just want to up your training, come and try our HYROX classes in our brand-new dedicated HYROX training zone. R1G Strength, R1G Engine, R1G Form and R1G Team gym floor classes are also hosted in this new space.

All classes can be booked up to seven days in advance and we highly recommend doing so where possible to avoid disappointment. Members can book via the Life Leisure app or website.

Leisure key companion/carer card

Some families or individuals may be eligible for a leisure key which is delivered by Stockport Council. This provides discount to swimming and other activities across Life Leisure. In addition, if you are eligible for a leisure key companion/carer card, you will be able to access the activity for free accompanying an individual to a session. The following steps need to be taken to access this:

  1. Check your eligibility criteria with Stockport Council here.
  2. Complete any of the relevant information and submit proof of eligibility if required.
  3. Once you have your leisure key and or leisure key companion card, bring this into a Life Leisure centre and register for a Casual Leisure Key Bookings account at reception.
  4. Once this has been registered, you can then book online. For instructions on how to book, please click here.

Please note, the upper gym area can only be accessed via stairs.

Stockport Arnies Powerlifting Club

Stockport Arnies Powerlifting Club is an established Accessible Powerlifting Club, affiliated to BWL, based at Life Leisure Houldsworth Village. The club is one of only a few Paralympic Clubs in the North West and provides opportunities for anyone who has a disability who wants to take part in the sport to continue as a member of a local club.

Current sessions:

  • Monday: 17:00 – 20:00 (drop in session)
  • Wednesday: 17:00 – 20:00 (drop in session)
  • Friday: 10-00 – 12:00 (club session)
